MASK CHANGING (BIAN LIAN PERFORMANCE)
Bian lian, or mask/face changing, is one of the most riveting forms of Chinese performance art. Originating in Sichuan during the Qing dynasty, mask-changing performers use specialised techniques to swap masks in the blink of an eye. The faces change so quickly that the audience is left in awe, watching one expression transform into another as if by magic.
Rex Teo, our founder and lead mask changer, travelled to Chengdu, China to study this rare skill and has since performed for audiences at prestigious venues such as the Supreme Court of Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa, and the Indonesian Chinese Clan Social Association. He has also showcased his talent on Mediacorp’s The Sheng Siong Show, bringing this traditional art to a national television audience.

WUSHU PERFORMANCE
Wushu is a discipline within Chinese martial arts that combines strength, speed, flexibility and artistry, drawing from traditions such as kung fu and tai chi. The RexArts Wushu Team consists of dedicated members and experienced practitioners who have trained in a variety of bare-hand forms and weapons, including long fist (changquan), spear, sword and cudgel. Many are distinguished athletes and medalists whose achievements include participation in national and international competitions, where routines are evaluated by professional judges.
Our performers undergo rigorous training under the guidance of an experienced coach to refine explosive kicks, controlled weapon techniques and strong fundamentals. These structured methods build precision, stamina, technical skills, and a dynamic presentation that reflects the discipline and heritage of Chinese martial arts. Each routine combines powerful techniques with fluid movements for a performance both athletic and visually striking.
Many team members began their journey through RexArts Wushu classes, progressing over time from beginners to accomplished performers. CHINESE DRUM PERFORMANCE
